MONO 53 | Xiu Xiu (USA)
Event description
Known for their genre-blending methodologies, iconic American experimentalists Xiu Xiu defy simple description. Colliding divergent musical forms that travel from synth-fuelled pop and post-punk, through to neo-classical experimentalism, Xiu Xiu has come to epitomise a resolutely personal sound world beyond compare.
The band's leader, Jamie Stewart, is responsible for a dynamic songbook that embraces a determined restlessness without fear. Their latest album, 13" Frank Beltrame Italian Stiletto with Bison Horn Grips, marks their 17th chapter and further expands Xiu Xiu's universe of wonderment and uneasy delight. Their work is a truly individual and an utterly compelling vision of song, noise and harmonic ferocity.
Over the course of the last two decades, Xiu Xiu’s prolific and influential output of acclaimed albums and collaborations has been consistently dazzling. They’ve released 17 full-length LPs that have been praised in outlets such as The New Yorker, The Wire, Rolling Stone, The Guardian, NME and many others. They have toured the globe relentlessly, performing in places as far off the beaten path as Kazakhstan and Lebanon and places institutionally vital as the Guggenheim and Centre Pompidou.
