Event description

Mitchell Fine Art presents Monochrome, an exhibition that brings together a powerful collection of Aboriginal and contemporary artworks that resist colour in favour of a black and white narrative.

Monochrome explores the stark contrast and harmony found in these two colours, showcasing the depth and breadth of artistic practices. Each image speaks in the universal language of contrasts - black against white, light against shadow, simplicity against complexity.

Featuring works from leading Aboriginal artists alongside influential contemporary creatives, this exhibition highlights the power of minimalism in art, where the absence of colour speaks volumes in conveying complex ideas, emotions, and narratives.

"We are thrilled to present Monochrome, a stunning juxtaposition of both traditional Aboriginal art forms and contemporary expressions, all of which use black and white to tell stories in incredibly nuanced and compelling ways," says Mike Mitchell, Gallery Director.

‘Beyond the individual artists, the exhibition serves as a testament to the versatility and adaptability of a black and white palette in any space’

This curated display showcases a mix of artworks by artists such as Carlos Barrios and Idris Murphy, and the monumental large-scale 2m x 3m painting by George Tjungurrayi.

The gallery is open 6 days a week from Monday to Friday 10am to 5.30pm and Saturday 10am until 5pm, with onsite parking available.
