How to Run a Thriving Classroom

Using action research to create a vibrant, responsive and successful Montessori environment

Meet your presenter

Alex Ioannou

Thriving classrooms are built through purposeful observation, thoughtful reflection and a willingness to respond to the changing needs of the learning community.

In this practical workshop, Alex Ioannou will explore how educators can use action research to observe, reflect and respond purposefully to the evolving needs of their students and the learning environment.

Participants will gain practical strategies for activating the key principles of agency, choice and real-world experience within their Montessori practice.

Through examples drawn from across the learning planes, Alex will share a collection of effective practices that participants can implement immediately to create a more vibrant, responsive and successful Montessori classroom.

Action Research in Practice

Use a practical cycle of observation, reflection and purposeful action to understand what is happening in your classroom and identify meaningful opportunities for improvement.

Strengthening Student Agency

Explore how meaningful agency helps students take increasing ownership of their learning, decisions and contributions to the classroom community.

Choice and Real-World Experience

Consider how authentic choice and purposeful real-world experiences can make learning more relevant, engaging and responsive to students’ developmental needs.

Practice Across the Learning Planes

Examine examples from across the Montessori learning planes and consider how effective practices can be adapted to suit different ages, stages and environments.

Leave with practical strategies you can use immediately to create a classroom that is more vibrant, responsive, purposeful and successful.

Fresh perspectives. Meaningful connections.

Created for parents, teachers and educational leaders across the globe, these engaging sessions offer practical insights and fresh perspectives to help you support children’s learning, development and wellbeing.

Drawing on our guests’ experiences, we will explore how Montessori principles can strengthen relationships, inspire purposeful learning and contribute to a kinder, brighter world.
