Breathe & Be: Carer Reset Retreat
Description
Last Carer Reset Retreat dates for 2026 🤍
This retreat is for parents and carers of children with additional needs or disabilities.
When was the last time you gave yourself permission to be the priority — even just for 3.5 hours?
As we move towards the busyness of the end of the year, the demands often seem to grow while our own cup gets a little emptier.
Appointments, school transitions, end-of-year events, planning, advocating, Christmas, family commitments... all while continuing to hold everything that caring already asks of us.
The Carer Reset Retreat is a half-day opportunity to intentionally step away from all of that for a few hours — to pause, rest, reset and reconnect with yourself.
Each month, Niina also invites a guest facilitator to share a short, practical workshop, offering different tools, information or experiences that may support carers in their everyday lives.
About this retreat
Parenting children with additional needs or disabilities can feel like living in a constant state of alert.
Managing appointments, therapies, school meetings, behaviours, advocacy, and the ongoing mental load that comes with caring for a child who needs more support than most people realise.
Over time, your own needs often move further and further down the list.
This retreat won’t change everything — but for a few hours, you may feel a sense of belonging, and what it’s like to be a priority in your own life. And sometimes, that’s where everything begins to shift.
Created and hosted by a special education teacher and mum to two deaf and autistic daughters, this retreat is designed for parents and carers who are running on empty and craving rest, regulation, and connection.

FAQs
- Who is the Carer Reset Retreat for?
The retreat is for parents and carers of children with additional needs or disabilities. You don't need a particular diagnosis, funding or level of support needs to attend.
- What can I expect?
The Carer Reset Retreat is a 3.5-hour opportunity to step away from everyday responsibilities and allow yourself to be the priority for a little while.
Each retreat includes Breathwork, gentle Yin Yoga, guided reflection, a creative activity, time to connect with other carers, and a short practical workshop with a guest facilitator.
You don’t need any previous experience with Breathwork or Yin Yoga to attend. Everything is beginner-friendly, and you’ll be gently guided throughout.
- Is this therapy?
No. The Carer Reset Retreat is a wellbeing and community experience, not psychological or therapeutic treatment. It offers space for rest, reflection, connection and practical wellbeing tools.
- Do I need to have previous experience from Breathwork or yoga?
Not at all. Everything is beginner-friendly and you will be guided throughout.
There is no expectation to be flexible, perform perfectly, quiet your mind or get anything "right".
You are in charge of your experience the entire time, with plenty of choices offered throughout each practice. You are always encouraged to listen to your body and choose what feels right for you.
- What if I come on my own?
Please do! Many carers attend without knowing anyone else. Connection is available, but there is no pressure to share personal experiences or participate in conversations if you don't feel like it.
- Do I have to participate in everything?
No. Everything is purely an invitation. You are encouraged to listen to your body and choose what feels supportive for you on the day. Resting is always an option.
- What if I'm exhausted and don't feel very social?
Then you are especially welcome. 🤍
This isn't an event where you need to arrive bubbly, make conversation or be "on".
Come exactly as you are.
- What if I need to move around or take a break?
Please do. You are always welcome to move, change positions, step outside to the garden, use the bathroom, have a drink or take a break whenever you need to. You don’t need to ask for permission or explain yourself.
- What if I don’t feel comfortable lying down for Breathwork or Yin Yoga?
That’s completely okay. You are welcome to practise in whatever position feels most comfortable for your body — lying down, sitting, using props for support, or changing positions throughout. There is no “right” way your body needs to be.
- What is the guest workshop?
Each month I invite a different guest facilitator to offer a short, practical session specifically chosen with carers in mind. The focus changes each month, so every Carer Reset Retreat is a little different.
- What do I need to bring?
Just yourself, comfortable clothing, a water bottle and anything you personally need to feel comfortable. Mats and other equipment are provided, along with light refreshments.
You are more than welcome to bring your own mat, pillow and blanket if you prefer.
- What is the creative activity?
A relaxed opportunity to move out of the thinking mind and into the flow of creating. Activities may include things like collage or vision board creation. No artistic skills required — it's about the process, not what you create. Trust me, I have zero artistic skills in me yet I still enjoy these activities!
- I use particular tools to help me regulate. Can I bring them?
Absolutely. Please bring anything that helps you feel comfortable and regulated — such as fidgets, headphones, a comfort item, sensory tools or your own blanket/pillow. You know your needs best, and you are encouraged to use whatever supports you throughout the retreat.
- Can I attend more than once?
Absolutely. The core intention remains the same — pause, rest, reset and reconnect — while the guest facilitator and some activities change each month. You're very welcome to make Carer Reset part of your regular time for yourself.
