Join GreenHomeNYC at this month's Forums event for an in-person panel discussion + Q&A with professionals who work in building sustainability.

GreenHomeNYC is kicking off 2024 with our annual Green Catwalk forum featuring an eclectic lineup of sustainability professionals. This is a great opportunity to learn about new technologies, innovations, and policies happening in the New York City environmental sustainability and green infrastructure sphere. Presentations will be slightly shorter than normal to allow for all of our speakers to have the spotlight on the catwalk.

Our panel speakers will talk about recent projects in range of industries and share their insights into the latest with residential heat pumps, clothing recycling and reuse, carbon reduction in residential buildings, and urban agriculture education, and building efficiency programs.

Presenter details:

Megan has always acted as an environmental advocate, working with domestic organizations such as the Natural Resources Defense Council and Green Corps, as well as on international waters projects with the United Nations. Once her oldest child entered kindergarten, Megan recognized the need for an improved sustainability and science education in NYC public schools, leading her to join NY Sun Works. At NY Sun Works, Megan leads the Development and Government Relations team in helping schools discover, implement, and grow alongside their Hydroponic Classroom program. She is a graduate of Dartmouth College and Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs.

NY Sun Works is a non-profit organization that builds hydroponic farm classrooms in K-12 schools to teach science, sustainability and climate education, currently partnering with 300+ NYC schools. Megan will show how urban agriculture can be used to transform science teaching and introduce urban students to green careers.

Joanna Moore is a ClimateTech professional based in NYC. She has spent most of her career in the startup and innovation ecosystem. Currently, she is the Director of Product at Prescriptive Data, where she leads the software development cycle for energy efficiency products for real estate. Previously, she supported small businesses adopting indoor farming technology and worked on the investment team at Massachusetts Clean Energy Center, a quasi-state agency focused on commercializing nascent climate technologies.

Data transparency and efficiency measures are powerful tools for carbon reduction in commercial real estate. Joanna will show how owners and operators are approaching new regulations and corporate sustainability goals.

Jennifer Maldonado is a Sustainability Consultant at Kinetic Communities Consulting, specializing in outreach for the NYS Affordable Multifamily Energy Efficiency Program in the downstate region. As an emerging professional, Jennifer has demonstrated experience in project management and civic engagement in her current and previous roles. Jennifer completed her Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies at CUNY Queens College and is interested in exploring a master's in environmental policy. In her free time, Jennifer enjoys visiting coffee shops and green spaces, and plays an active role as a committee member in the Queens Solid Waste Advisory Board (QSWAB).

Jennifer is currently working on the NYS NYSERDA Affordable Multifamily Energy Efficiency Program (AMEEP). She focuses on outreach and engagement to affordable multifamily properties across New York City. She is responsible for liaising the project implementation, supporting a cross-functional team to complete 200+ energy efficiency projects, saving low-moderate income New Yorkers over $100K annually in energy costs. Conducting direct and community-based outreach is a central focus in her work to assist in achieving the program’s core electric and gas reduction goals while also empowering low-income communities to accessing clean and safe energy and an improved quality of life.

Bryant Elder is the Director of Business Development at Gradient Comfort. His topic will introduce a brand new category in heat pump technology, window heat pumps, which offer all of the benefits and energy efficiency of a mini split, but with convenience and ease of installation of a standard window AC. He will focus Gradient comfort, a San Francisco based startup that is in the process of installing 10,000 units in the New York City Housing Authority (Woodside Houses), which awarded us this project as part of their Clean Heat For All challenge.

Bryant has a BA from Colgate University. His previous roles include VP of Sales - Bloc Power, Director of Sales - Thermal Systems Associates, Director of Business Development - Ice Air, Regional Sales Manager - Petro Home Services.

Hayley Willner is the Community Lead at FABSCRAP, supporting FABSCRAP's educational programming and volunteer community. As a recent graduate of Barnard College, Hayley has a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Science and Sustainability. She recently completed an Ameri-Corps fellowship with the National Park Service, creating engaging and informative programming about climate change. As an emerging professional, Hayley has worked on sustainability solutions in the private sector, completing a 5-month internship with the sustainability team at Williams-Sonoma Inc (WSI), as well as supporting food access work at GrowNYC through their GreenMarket Program. Hayley has always been passionate about environmental justice and community-focused climate solutions.

Marc Zuluaga, PE, has acted as a trusted technical advisor to real estate leaders and government officials for over two decades. Marc is a co-founder and the Chief Revenue Officer of Cadence OneFive, a climate tech startup driving building decarbonization and climate justice at the city level. He believes effective climate action requires collaboration, as existing solutions lack the scale and speed to address the growing climate crisis. Previously, Marc served as CEO at Steven Winter Associates, guiding the firm's evolution amid industry changes. He has advised multiple city sustainability initiatives in a strategic advisory capacity, including co-chairing New York City's 80x50 Technical Working Group, serving on Boston’s Building Performance Standards Technical Advisory Group, and advising on New York State’s Energy Efficiency and Building Electrification efforts. Marc brings decades of leadership driving innovation in the built environment to create systemic change.

Marc will present on Cadence OneFive's software, which is used by the ConEd Multifamily Energy Efficiency Program and the NYS Climate Friendly Homes Fund to provide instant retrofit scopes of work and retrofit workflow management.
