Short film screenings, patrula and kipli
Event description
Riawunna warmly invites all Community and students to join us around the fire for a documentary screening in the Riawunna Community Room (Level 3 Social Sciences, opposite the Stanley Burbury) on the Sandy Bay Campus at 3pm.
Our short documentaries will begin with the 'Land Bridge filmed on the Islands in the Bass Straits'. The 'Land Bridge' positions our geographical location and living histories of our Bass Strait Islands and the management of these islands that are home to these significant "Moon Birds" (mutton birds). It showcases how our traditional Tasmanian Aboriginal Knowledges work together with Western sciences, and offers an extraordinary insight into our people and culture that leads the way, like our pilot bird.
This is followed by 'Palawa Kipli Tasmanian Aboriginal foods', 'Keeping the practice of the Muttonbirding alive for a new generation', 'The connection of our people to Sea Country and kelp forests - A great Southern Reef film', ' Truwana - Cape Barren Island in the Bass Straits, Country under threat' and concluding with the beautiful 'Songlines of the Moonbird'.
Catering will be available for attendees in the Riawunna Community Room suitable for Vegetarians and with GF options.
