Event description

Join us for a very special morning with Kevin Ahearn, master woodcarver and passionate historian.

Over coffee and cake, Kevin will share tales of his life working with rare timbers, from salvaging ancient fallen trees to carving works of art that honour both the timber and the people who came before us.

Kevin’s deep knowledge of the early timber industry and the first settlers of the region brings history to life in a way only a storyteller with sawdust under his nails can. Learn how timber was sourced, the challenges faced by the first timber getters, and how these stories are woven into Kevin’s art.

Whether you’re a lover of history, art, or simply a good yarn over morning tea, this is an event not to miss.

About Kevin

Kevin Ahearn – Master Carver and Story Keeper
Kevin Ahearn, the creative force behind ARK & C, is a renowned woodcarver and historian who has dedicated his life to preserving both timber and the stories they hold. For decades, Kevin has worked with rare, recycled timbers — each piece telling a tale of the forests it came from, the early settlers who worked the land, and the skilled hands who shaped it.

His carvings, sculptures, and furniture are not just works of art, but pieces of living history. Kevin’s passion for timber led him deep into the ranges, where he uncovered stories of the first timber getters and the pioneering families who shaped the region. This curiosity evolved into a lifelong mission to document these stories, resulting in three historical books, including Slab Hut and Split Rail Fence, which chronicles the history of Rosevale, Mt Walker, and the area’s first Irish families.

As Kevin nears retirement, his body weary from years of carving, he is ready to share both his creations and his stories — making sure they find homes and hearts for future generations.

ARK & C’s motto captures Kevin’s approach:
“Make timeless woodcarvings and sculptures from rare recycled timbers.”
