    Event description

Melbourne Women's Foundation giving circle is a community of donors investing in the wellbeing of women and families in Melbourne. Our members vote annually to decide which organisations receive grants from the funding pool we have accumulated by the end of the financial year.

Our learning events are opportunities for our members to learn about the breadth of experiences of vulnerability so that our giving is informed and impactful.

"Mother" tells the story of Christie, a homeless woman in a world detached, unforgiving and destructive. It gives voice to the fallen and dispossessed, to those who exist at the edge of safety, at the point of being undone.

Written by acclaimed Australian playwright Daniel Keene, Mother is a solo performance wrought with tenderness and loneliness in equal measure.

One of the key themes of Mother is the danger of rushing to judgment of others. It's a message Noni Hazlehurst would like her audience to take on board. "Given a "few bad decisions and an unhelpful environment", Christie could be any one of us, says Hazlehurst."

"These are divisive times where everything is reduced to us versus them. To combat," says Hazlehurst. "It's a great leveler to walk a mile in someone's shoes, if you know their story you can understand the way they are. If we don't have empathy, we have war."
