Event description

Join us at the new Colac Aboriginal Gathering Place for a free community film screening of Motherhood in the Colony, accompanied by a community-cooked supper and sharing of cultural poetry.

THE FILM
“In a world shaped by violence and erasure, Motherhood in the Colony brings eight First Nations and Palestinian women together. Through intimate storytelling, the film unravels stories of colonial trauma, and mothering as an act of resistance, while inviting audiences to listen, learn, and envision a future beyond the oppressive structures of colonisation.”

A Bukjeh and GARUWA Film, in association with Common Ground. Created on the lands of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation in Victoria. From the river to the sea. Always was, always will be.

A note on film content/inclusivity:
Motherhood in the Colony touches on sensitive subject matter, including violence and the death of children. It does not include graphic images. All genders are welcomed to attend. The film may not be suitable for children and some young people unless they are already engaged in conversations about these issues. We leave the decision on children/young people attending to the discretion of parents/caregivers
