ABOUT THE FILM

https://motherhoodinthecolony.com
In a world shaped by violence and erasure, Motherhood in the Colony brings eight First Nations and Palestinian women together. Through intimate storytelling, the film unravels stories of colonial trauma, and mothering as an act of resistance, while inviting audiences to listen, learn, and envision a future beyond the oppressive structures of colonisation.

Worimi filmmaker,Genevieve Grieves and Palestinian artist, Aseel Tayah, brought the film's Storytellers together in November 2023 to create Motherhood in the Colony. The film's Storytellers invite you to use the film as a tool for healing and conversation, so that collectively, we create a world where all oppressed communities are supported to reclaim their lands, cultures and futures.

Motherhood in the Colony is an offering of shared stories, of listening and learning, and of gathering to envision a future beyond the oppressive structures of colonisation.

Film duration: 60 Minutes (TBC)

The post-screening discussion will be facilitated by local resident Devon Taylor, with guidance provided by the film's team.  We do not condone aggression or violence and will not tolerate any forms of discrimination, islamophobia or anti-semititism.

We look forward to sharing a space of curiosity and courage.

ABOUT RADIUS CINEMA

The screening is at Radius which isn’t a pro cinema but we have a great projector / screen & sound system.  Seating is a first in basis, we have a variety of chairs but if you need something specific reach out and we will try and accommodate your needs or even better bring your own if you like!  There is wheelchair access, let us know if you are bringing one so we can make a clear pathway and space.  There will also be bean bags up front and stools up back.  We have capped it to 50 people per screening and may do more screenings if there’s demand.

FOOD

There will be Palestinian food to share before the film.  This will be by donation.  Feel free to bring something to contribute.  You can also bring along Drinks / Snacks / Pop-Corn etc.

We will have the kettle on and offer free tea / coffee available if you want to linger and chat after.
