This month, we are screening a deeply moving and personal film:

Motherhood in the Colony (33 mins)

Parents and carers: We'll have a supervised kids space with activities, so you can focus on the film!

About the film:

With Common Ground’s support, celebrated Worimi filmmaker Genevieve Grieves and renowned Palestinian artist, Aseel Tayah, explore the connections and shared struggles of Indigenous women through the lens of motherhood, which emerges as a transmission of wisdoms across generations, a promise of a culture’s survival and of its flourishing.

In a world shaped by violence and erasure, Motherhood in the Colony brings eight First Nations and Palestinian women together. Through intimate storytelling, the film unravels stories of colonial trauma, and mothering as an act of resistance, while inviting audiences to listen, learn, and envision a future beyond the oppressive structures of colonisation.

A Bukjeh and GARUWA Film, in association with Common Ground. Created on the lands of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation in Victoria. From the river to the sea. Always was, always will be.
