MOTHERLOAD captures a new mother's quest to understand the increasing isolation and disconnection of modern life, its planetary impact, and how cargo bikes could be an antidote.

Filmmaker Liz Canning cycled everywhere until she had twins in 2008. Motherhood was challenging, but to Liz hauling babies via car felt stifling. She Googled "family bike" and uncovered a global movement of people replacing cars with cargo bikes: long-frame bicycles designed for carrying heavy loads. Liz set out to learn more, and MOTHERLOAD was born.

This documentary has helped inspire a global community to rethink their methods of transport in this changing climate. Cargo bikes are reconnecting people with nature, eliminating transport emissions and helping people get active!

SEE-Change Belconnen Group and Ginninderry are holding a free online screening of this uplifting documentary, followed by an online discussion at 2pm Sunday 29 August 2021. Hear from some local Canberrans about their own experiences using and transitioning to this active means of transport, including a young dad who uses it to ferry his three kids to childcare.

We will also explain the Canberra Electric Bike Library, a project funded by the ACT Government and delivered by SEE-Change and Switched On Cycles. This event will give you the opportunity to learn more about this fantastic initiative, and connect with the growing cargo bike community right here in Canberra.
