Event description

What if it was possible to combine your daily commute with exercise and spend quality time with your kids?

If you are looking for practical ways to contribute to climate action, switching out some or all your trips in the car to bike rides is a great option.

Come and meet a community of parents who have already made the switch (or are starting out).

The Film:

MOTHERLOAD captures a new mother’s quest to understand the increasing isolation and disconnection of modern life, its planetary impact, and how cargo bikes could be an antidote.

Filmmaker Liz Canning cycled everywhere until she had twins in 2008. Motherhood was challenging, but to Liz hauling babies via car felt stifling. She Googled “family bike” and uncovered a global movement of people replacing cars with cargo bikes: long-frame bicycles designed for carrying heavy loads. Liz set out to learn more, and MOTHERLOAD was born.

Since its world premiere in May 2019, MOTHERLOAD has been on a Global Screening Tour featuring over 500 live and virtual venues.

This is a child-friendly event. There will be a kid's zone set up with a separate screen, bean bags, activities and fun.

    The venue is wheelchair accessible.

      Why:

Babes on Bikes is a campaign to make cycling safe and accessible for women and children in Adelaide.

We don’t believe signs and paint on the road are enough to keep us safe, we need separated bike paths that provide an integrated and direct route to the places we need to go.

We need investment in family-friendly and female-friendly cycling infrastructure in the inner suburbs of Adelaide and beyond, for our children and the planet.
