Mount Majura Tour with Thunderstone Aboriginal Cultural Services

Event description

At 888 metres, Mt Majura is the highest peak in suburban Canberra. It provides habitat for a wide range of wildlife, including a number of threatened species, as well as various opportunities for recreation.

Guide and local Ngunawal traditional custodian, Tyronne Bell will interpret the landscape pointing out the area’s natural resources and how these were expertly used by Aboriginal people. During the walk Tyronne will point out artefacts, bush foods and a scar tree and discuss their traditional uses and cultural significance.

  • Duration of walk: 1.5 hours approx.

  • Degree of difficulty: easy walking on track, gentle incline.

  • What to wear/bring: comfortable, protective clothing; sturdy enclosed walking shoes; water to drink on the walk; a snack and camera.

Please note: the walk will go ahead in light rain. In the event of heavy rain or strong wind we will need to reschedule for safety reasons. Should it be raining on the morning of the walk, we will be in contact - please ensure we have a current mobile number.

SCHEDULE/TIMING

Arrive at Mt Majura – see meeting location below

  • 10:00am: Welcome, introductions & risk assessment
  • 10:15am: Commence walk, stopping at various points of interest along track/trail
  • 11:50am: Return to starting point. If time permits, opportunity for Q&A/further discussion
  • 12:00pm: Conclude/depart

Refund policy

The CPLE reserves the right to cancel or postpone a training session. If an event is cancelled, we will advise you as soon as possible and offer you an alternative training session if available or you can request a full refund. If you are unable to attend a training session, a substitute participant is welcome to attend in your place, please contact CPLE to advise of these name changes. If you wish to cancel your registration, written notice is required at least 7 working days prior to the date of the training session. A full refund will then be provided. No refunds will be given for cancellations of less than 7 working days.
