Supporting Children with the BIG Emotions
Event description
This professional development course has been designed especially for Outside of School Hours Care educators to boost their confidence and ability to deliver quality education and care for children with complex needs.
Navigating educational settings is becoming increasingly challenging as more children are presenting with more complex behaviours and needs. This is especially relevant in after school hours programs where children are often extended in their capacity to self-manage during longer than normal school days.
During this informative and helpful half day workshop you will learn practical skills and up-to-date theory that covers the following proficiencies:
- Understand the big picture of what’s happening for these children & why it’s happening so you can manage challenging situations in more effective ways.
- Upgrade your behaviour guidance toolbox with simple and effective communication skills that can de-escalate a distressed child while also building stronger relationships.
- Build self-awareness and personal self-care skills to manage the emotional stress that may arise from a challenging day when working with children.
Please bring a notebook, a curious mind and a willingness to learn about new techniques and perspectives that will transform the way you experience your workplace.
