Mount Taylor Tour with Thunderstone Aboriginal Cultural Services
Event description
At 856 metres, Mount Taylor is a prominent hill in Southern Canberra. It provides habitat for a wide range of flora and fauna, including a number of endangered species. Aboriginal interpretation of the landscape, bush foods, artefacts/stone tools and their traditional uses, scenic views across Tuggeranong and Woden valley
Guide and local Ngunawal traditional custodian, Tyronne Bell will interpret the landscape pointing out the area’s natural resources and how these were expertly used by Aboriginal people. During the walk Tyronne will point out artefacts, bush foods and their traditional uses, scenic views across Tuggeranong and Woden valley
Duration of walk: 1.5 hours approx.
Degree of difficulty: easy walking on track, gentle incline.
What to wear/bring: comfortable, protective clothing; sturdy enclosed walking shoes; water to drink on the walk; a snack and camera
SCHEDULE/TIMING
Arrive at Mt Taylor – Mount Taylor Reserve Carpark
10:00am: Welcome, introductions & risk assessment
10:15am: Commence walk, stopping at various points of interest along track/trail
11:50am: Return to starting point. If time permits, opportunity for Q&A/further discussion
12:00pm: Conclude/depart
