Join us for a fascinating look at the history of search and rescue in the Blue Mountains with Science at the Local, exploring 620 incidents across the region.
Christopher Webber from Mountains Mishaps will share the stories behind search and rescue operations in the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area, including the rescuers, those who were rescued, and many other remarkable incidents.
In his talk, Mountain Mishaps: The Science of Survival (and Stuff-Ups) in the Blue Mountains, Christopher explores remarkable local accidents, rescues and misadventures, uncovering the science behind what went wrong, what helped people survive, and what these stories can teach us about staying safe in the challenging Blue Mountains environment.
About Christopher Webber
Christopher Webber is an Australian author and historian with a fascination for the stories of the Blue Mountains. The author of Mountain Mishaps, Christopher brings decades of experience in emergency services, bushwalking and education to the stories he tells. A long-serving NSW State Emergency Service (SES) member, he has been recognised with multiple national service awards.
