2024 Writers in Residence
The 2024 Mountain Words Writer in Residency is OPEN FOR SUBMISSIONS until Feb 9, 2024.

The Mountain Words Writers-in-Residence program invites writers to Crested Butte for a month of focused writing, from May 1 to June 1, 2024.

Application deadline: February 9, 2024

Writers-In-Residence receive:

• A $1,000 stipend
• A month of private lodging in Crested Butte (May 1st – June 1st, 2024)
• A public celebration of their works completed during this residency at The Mountain Words Festival
• Virtual publicity through the Center For The Arts marketing & social media channels
  
  

Writers-In-Residence are expected to:

• Participate in two 2024 Mountain Words Festival events
• Participate in one speaking engagement at Crested Butte Community School
• Plan and cover the cost of your travel to and from Crested Butte
• Engage with other writers-in-residence and local writing communities as time permits

To apply, please submit:

• A letter of reference from an editor, agent, mentor, or other professional familiar with your work
• Publication history (reviews, endorsements, awards, etc) & links to your website (if applicable)
• A personal letter stating your interest in, need, and plan for the residency
• A writing sample/s (up to 10 pages)

• $10 registration fee 

Notes on the residency:

• Accommodation cannot be arranged for family and/or friends, though they are welcome to visit
• Writers-in-residence are required to occupy their residence for the duration of their contract
• Animals, though loved, are not invited for residency stays

How to submit:

• All applications must be received no later than 12:00 am (midnight) Mountain Standard Time, February 9, 2024.
• Applications can be submitted via this submission link.
• All supporting materials must be submitted as PDFs. Please ensure all PDF files have your first and last name in the file name and on the documents themselves.
• Please ask recommenders to send their letter as a PDF to literary@crestedbuttearts.org with “WIR RECOMMENDATION: LAST NAME, FIRST NAME” in the subject line.
• We can also accept applications by post, please contact literary@crestedbuttearts.org with “POSTAL APPLICATION” as the subject line.

• Applications will be reviewed by a selection committee and notifications will be made by Thursday, February 29, 2024.
