MOVE for Mental Health
Event description
MOVE FOR MENTAL HEALTH:
This free MOVE for Mental Health event will help you understand the critical connection between exercise & mental health. For anyone who is wanting to improve their physical & mental health. All ages, genders & fitness levels welcome.
MOVE for Mental Health will help you:
- Understand the critical connection between exercise & mental health to inspire you into action to improve both your physical & mental wellbeing.
- Increase your motivation to exercise to improve mental resiliency & feel your best.
- Understand the phenomenon behind “movement is medicine” & new research that proves this.
- How to ask "are you ok?” meaningfully & make a difference in helping prevent suicide in Australia.
Sk Bodywork's is collaborating with RUOK, AusActive (the peak body for the exercise & active health sector within Australia) & Susan Templeman MP, for this event to raise much needed awareness around the critical connection between exercise & mental health - as well as raise funds for RUOK to aid in suicide prevention within our local community & across Australia.
Because the statistics are concerning:
- Australia is ranked 140th out of 146 countries for the highest physical inactivity levels for adolescents.
- Over 56% of Australian adults are not meeting recommended physical activity guidelines.
- About 8 people take their own lives in Australia every day and for every 1 death, it’s estimated another 30 people will attempt suicide.
- 89% of people report knowing somebody who has made an attempt.
The very reason I started out in the fitness industry over 8+ years ago was because of a life changing injury I sustained during a soccer game which stopped me from being able to exercise, move by body & play soccer for 12 months.
It was during this time I realised the impact not being able to move my body had on my mental health & my life as a whole.
From that day onwards it become my mission to impact as many people in this lifetime as possible & make sure that you have fitness in your life to support not only your physical health but also your mental health too.
