MOVE TOGETHER is Studio1’s inaugural Access & Inclusion Forum, where d/Deaf and/or disabled artists and arts-workers will share creative process, best practice and some exciting artistic collaborations.
💥 Are you seeking to learn how to embed access into creative process and artistic praxis? 💥
Curated by Daniele Constance, MOVE TOGETHER is for artists with disability-led practices and non-identifying artists alike, this full day of allied sector workshops will share skills and knowledge in embedding access within creative practices.Â
EVENT SCHEDULEÂ
9:30am: Creating safe spaces - for d/Deaf and disabled attendees only
- Led by Emma-June Curik, this is an opportunity for any d/Deaf and/or disabled attendees to arrive early, connect with each other and settle into the space.
10:00am - Welcome + Acknowledgement of Country by Yolande BrownÂ
✨10:15 am Orientation with Daniele Constance & Creative Access Support with Emma-June Curik
- Daniele and Emma-June will share a brief overview about the venue, access, quiet room, and briefly share some insights and considerations in making spaces more inclusive.Â
✨10:30am: In conversation with Michelle Ryan (Restless Dance) & Daniele Constance [Pre-recorded]
- Listen in on a conversation with Michelle Ryan and Daniele Constance as they introduce some of the foundational ways of working in disability-led creative spaces. Michelle Ryan, Artistic Director of Restless Dance Theatre, has an impressive career that spans over 30 years in the arts. This is an exciting opportunity to listen, learn and reflect as Michelle shares experiences from her extraordinary career and practice.
11:30am: Morning tea
✨11:45am: Adapting: Not a Dirty Word with Lauren Watson
- In this physical workshop led by Lauren Watson, we will discuss adaptive language and movement and how we can add this to our practice and workshops. There is more than one way to move as an artist and we will learn how to think outside the box, shake off societal expectations and discuss what is ableism and how we can start to step away from those ideals in circus and dance.
1pm: Lunch
✨1:45pm: Language & Culture with Sigrid Macdonald (Second Nature Strategies).Â
*This session will be delivered in Auslan and interpreted in English.
✨2:45pm: Move Together - Different Modes of Collaboration: Panel (Guest Artists To Be Announced)
4:00pm: Closing drinks + Chats

General accessibility information for MOVE TOGETHER:
The event is relaxed - you can come and go as you need!
Studio1 is on Station Road as a part of a larger warehouse. There is a large 'Studio1' sign on the front of the building.Â
Once you enter through the big roller door, we are the first door on the left. There is also another Studio1 sign outside the door.
You will then enter into our foyer space with the Studios on either side. Â
A quiet space will be set up in our Classroom Studio. Emma-June Curik will oversee the space as the event’s Creative Support Worker. This will be a low-light, low/no-scent, sensory-friendly environment and include some light refreshments and activities.Â
We have 2 toilets on the ground floor - including 1 accessible bathroom. Our accessible toilet is located at the back of the foyer - signage will be placed around the foyer.
The seating provided will be black fold-out chairs and foam mats on the floor. If in doubt, please bring along a comfy cushion from home for comfort.
There will be 2 Auslan Interpreters from FAB Interpreting for the duration of the event.If you are an Auslan user, please get in touch with our team so we can connect you with interpreters on the day and ensure Auslan visible seating.Â
