Never Mind the Balearics are over the moon to present Japan's hottest vinyl DJ, “record dealer to the stars” and all-round champion crate digger Mr Disco Kid (aka Kouki Shinada) for a long-awaited Australian debut, this June long weekend. As a DJ, his ability to surprise and delight as he jumps between genres is second to none. Combined with his emotional stage presence and infectious passion for music, he’s won the hearts of discerning dancers 

worldwide, getting re-booked consistently at heavyweight clubs such as London’s Giant Steps, where he’s played 7 hour sets in 2024, 2025 and is booked again for 2026. A master discoverer and private dealer of rare records, his archaeological digs through vinyl history have fueled some of the industry’s most revered tastemakers including Luke Una, Floating Points, Antal and The Mighty Zaff. 

The day before his visit to Australia in March 2026, who else did Gilles Peterson (who Kouki-san calls his Sensei) head to for a holy grail record-buying mission in Tokyo? 

Mr Disco Kid’s long-format DJ sets build sophisticated bridges between complex layers of soul-jazz, undiscovered global rhythms, and the high-energy worlds of disco, garage, house and techno. As a trained pianist, his musician’s ear guides his flow across genres, pitches and tempos. 

His Tokyo residency is at Shinjuku’s legendary audiophile club DJ Bar Bridge. He’s toured Europe twice so far, guesting at clubs in Germany, France, Ireland, Spain and The UK. A sold-out show at Cosybox New Delhi kicked off 2026 as his biggest and most adventurous year of travel yet, and he’s booked for Gilles Peterson’s We Out Here Festival 2026. Before hitting mainland Europe, he’s playing another marathon at Giant Steps, plus a night at what is arguably London’s hottest club, Om in August
