MRL Seniors Project "Connections, Naturally! Skills for Life" - Wildlife Monitoring
Description
Aimed at the over 50's amongst our community, this event is part of our Seniors Project. The Connections, Naturally program will host a series of events between now and May 2027. This event is our Wildlife Connections – We will show how we can all contribute to citizen science in various ways.
Hollow Log Homes will be on hand to lead a walk through our Wildside space, checking the nest boxes they installed earlier this year for evidence of use from our local wildlife. They can explain the different types of nest boxes, and how to install these effectively at your place.
We will also explain iNaturalist, Birdata and how wildlife survey apps are being used by everyday people to contribute towards science and conservation.
With a focus on birds and butterflies, we will explain how to identify and record wildlife observations in different situations. Conducting a bird/ butterfly survey in the field will reinforce this learning for participants.
