Description

Celebrate Book Week – Symphony of Stories

This concert presented by the MSO explores the musical magic of a much-loved children’s classic, Peter and the Wolf. Originally conceived in 1936 as a symphonic fairytale for young people, the work is heavily narrative-based and guided by a live narrator. Based around several overt musical themes played by instruments and matched to the various animals/characters of the story, Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf has long been regarded as the perfect introduction to the symphony orchestra.

Program
Lee Bradshaw, Four Poems by A A Milne, op.32,
Sergei Prokofiev, Peter and the Wolf, (arr. Bradshaw)
(41 mins, no interval)

Featuring

Narrator – Lee Bradshaw.
Musicians from the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra

Audience: Performance suitable for children and families

Duration: 41 minutes, no interval. Doors open 15 mins before performance start times

Please note: Peter and the Wolf is a gentle musical tale with moments of mild suspense, including a wolf threatening other animals and being captured, which may be sensitive for very young audiences.
