Mt Cook Fundraising Expedition
Event description
This year the Himalayan Trust is delighted to announce that they are partnering with the International Antarctic Centre to bring new ways to get involved in Summit Challenge 2021!
Join us for a trip to Mt Cook village to explore the Hermitage Museum and DOC Headquarters, and scale the track up to Mueller Hut.
Our journey into the mountain heart of New Zealand is where our hike will take us four hours up 1,000 vertical metres to Mueller Hut. This will be a significant first contribution to the Summit Challenge whether you are signed up for Aoraki, Everest Basecamp or Everest Summit.
You’ll learn about hospitals and healthcare in the Khumbu from Lindsay Strang - one of Khunde Hospital's first doctors. As well as explore the legacy of Sir Edmund Hillary and find out why the Himalayan Trust's work is so important.
Your guides for this event are Pherunje Sherpa and his Sherpa team who will lead you past the Sealy Tarns to Mueller Hut. Pherunje is a Himalayan Trust ambassador who was a guide at Mt Cook.
We'll also be accompanied by theAntarctic Academy's Director Miranda Satterthwaite whose work at IAC keeps New Zealand and Sir Edmund Hillary's Antarctic legacy alive.
Attending the Mt Cook Fundraising Expedition will also earn you the Aoraki Mt Cook Fundraising badge for your Summit Challenge fundraising page. A unique accomplishment for those that are embracing the challenge!
