Decades of research demonstrate that well-designed multimedia increases retention, engagement, and long-term information encoding. The research emphasizes "well-designed" multimedia for a reason - design choices matter.

This workshop explores both research-based design principles and practical applications for building multimedia and interactivity for learning and incorporating them into your assignments, using accessible, inexpensive tools. By the workshop's conclusion, you will have created several multimedia and interactive learning objects and developed a strategic plan for their effective implementation in your teaching.

Workshop Learning Outcomes:

Apply learning and design theories to evaluate and improve multimedia learning materials
Select and use digital tools and practices, including AI, to create interactive learning activities
Develop interactive learning experiences that foster active engagement and meaningful student participation
Create multimedia content that meets accessibility standards and accommodates diverse learning needs
Establish sustainable workflows for creating, implementing, maintaining and improving multimedia content
Explore how AI and other digital tools might affect trends and practices in digital learning creation

*This workshop qualifies as an elective for the Certificate in University Teaching and Learning (CUTL) for those participants who are interested in completing the certificate. Contact the facilitator for details on how to earn credit.
