MUM CHA - Charlie Carrington (Atlas Dining) & Shaun Christie-David (Plate It Forward)

Colombo Social’s monthly long-lunch series, Mum Cha returns this July. Plate it Forward Founder and CEO, Shaun Christie-David and his mother Shiranie will cook alongside  Melbourne’s Atlas Dining founder and celebrated chef, Charlie Carrington and his mother, Jacqueline "Jacquie" Carrington on Saturday, 27 July.

Mum Cha is a monthly celebration, dedicated to the incredible women and mothers that inspire others around them. The event invites the wider community to come together over a set menu, to share childhood stories that reminisce their collective love of food in the home. The gatherings enable participants to discover and savour delicious meals, forge connections, and create new memories, by honouring the significant role that food and family play in shaping their lives. This communal experience highlights how food acts as a bridge, bringing diverse individuals together to celebrate shared experiences, and build lasting relationships.

Every month, Shaun and his mother Shiranie will cook a 8-course meal alongside an Australian personality within the hospitality, sports, music or fashion arenas, and their mother. Each collaborative menu will represent a fusion of cultures and dishes, that both mothers want to share with the community, in an intimate setting comprised of 40 seats. In addition to the elaborate menu, the ticket will include a welcome cocktail, and unlimited, premium red and white wines for the 90-minute culinary escapade.

Known for being an earnest young chef addicted to a life filled with travel and adventure, Charlie and Jacquie have curated a menu inspired by their extensive travels together. As seen from the immensely successful Atlas Dining, the dishes will reflect the diverse cuisines and cooking techniques that have been shaped from mother and son exploring the world.

Cocktail on arrival- Amma's Spiked Iced Coffee: Mum's traditional Sri Lankan iced coffee with Ceylon Arrack

Shaun and Shiranie Christie-David:

Beef Patties - Sri Lanka's version of an empanada. Spiced minced beef and potato in a buttery hand made pastry
Tuna Cutlets - Tuna croquettes with mustard seeds, curry leaves and fenugreek and a house made hot sauce
Seeni Sambol Dumplings - A traditional relish of caramelised onions, cinnamon, cloves and garlic loaded into a dumpling
Dhal Sandwiches - We don't throw these away anymore but proudly serve Mum's famous sandwiches.
