Mundai Dja Tour
Event description
Mundai Dja is a purpose-built social housing development comprising 18 new 1- and 2-bedroom dwellings, delivered for the Kabi Kabi Aboriginal Corporation (KKAC) by C2B. This landmark project provides much-needed, centrally located accommodation for Kabi Kabi members and eligible First Nations residents within the heart of Maroochydore.
Situated at 13 Broadmeadows Road, Mundai Dja is surrounded by established detached homes and lies opposite a neighborhood park, the Maroochy River canal, and the Sunshine Coast Home retail centre. The site presented unique challenges, including a stormwater easement running east–west and a Flood Hazard Overlay. The architectural response split the development into northern and southern wings and ensured no habitable spaces were located on the ground floor, addressing both flooding risk and site constraints.
Mundai Dja is designed for long-term community housing, serving registered Kabi Kabi members and eligible First Nations people from the Housing Register. The development prioritizes accessibility and inclusive design for people experiencing or at risk of homelessness, single older women, seniors and single-parent families. Some units are also suitable for individuals living with a disability.
This project demonstrates how thoughtful design, cultural stewardship, and sustainability can come together to create a vibrant, safe, and enduring community for First Nations residents.
