Murray Bridge Rail Bridge 100 Year Celebration
Event description
The Rural City of Murray Bridge is pleased to invite you to celebrate this community milestone.
Over the decades, Murray Bridge’s crossings have played a vital role in connecting South Australia—supporting both rail and road travel and establishing our town as a regional hub. The construction of a second rail bridge downstream reflected growing freight demands, and its Centenary is fast approaching. Our township, originally known as Edwards Crossing, was renamed Murray Bridge following the completion of South Australia’s first bridge spanning the Murray River in 1878.
The program will feature displays of historical memorabilia and an opportunity for the community to reflect on the past 100 years and the bridges’ enduring impact on our township and on South Australia’s transport network to the Eastern States.
