Evening Muse

WELCOME

Join us midweek for an evening of life drawing, beauty and play! Muse began to leave you feeling gooey and joyous, ready for hump day. 

This is a special, but unserious, but safe space for all bodies and abilities to be and make art. With optional guidance and wine, we will to get the creative juices flowing. Dress up, or undress, either way but don’t be shy and come along.

MUSING

Evening Muse is on the second Tuesday of the month at Hele Cres Gallery from 7-9pm. Inspired by a different mythological Muse, each is themed with a variation of materials, subjects, styling and prompts for you to muse over. Most events at 18+, but will state when there is no nudity. Updates via Instagram and the mailing list. We will show, and even sell our work at the end of the journey with a Summer exhibition with our generous hosts.

The Greek daughters of Zeus teach us how engaging with our artistic side can lead us to greatness by taking us to the divine realm. Let’s be transported to the flow state together, right here in Mpartnwe NT. 

THIS MONTH

Our next one is on July 8th. As well as by the stunning current exhibition by Warakuna Women, PATJARR NGURRA PIRNI, this time we will be inspired by Polymnia, Muse of Sacred Poetry. During the interval we will open the floor to anyone who might have something they have been musing on; maybe you bring something sacred or poetic, but especially if you bring something you have created to share. 

COME AS YOU ARE

It’s okay if you're late, just knock on the door and I’ll open it. After dinner treats and materials will be laid out for you, but you are welcome to bring your own, eg an easel. 

Please take the opportunity to wear that special piece you never get to wear here - especially if it's giving Goddess of Sacred Poetry and Greek Mythology. 

MONEY STORY

Purchasing this partial ticket at $15 secures your seat, with respect to that you may want or need to cancel. In that case you can always pass it on. The rest of the ticket you can pay when you come, or just come if you can’t afford to. Please bring cash, a lobster ($20) is great but if you are happy to bring a pineapple ($50) this will help this project last longer and keep me afloat while I work to improve my health (and have capacity to give more soon)! 

I’ll post to let you know which evenings involve more expensive subjects or mediums, This includes sculpting classes or painting (then eating) Crudo Kitchen desserts. Thanks to those who have been reminding me that in the city that similar events cost $80-200 depending on the medium or subject.

The pay as you can model works with trust and community. The bottle method can help to clarify but essentially gives a moment of equity for those who are also surviving on a low income/with high costs like medical (sorry babes but please also factor in if you are inheriting a house or just won the lotto). 

I believe in equal arts access, but I’m also trying to respect that I don’t have capacity to give too much more to these events. 

You can also pay forward a ticket, or purchase a gift voucher to be redeemed at the event of the recipient's choice. 

We hope you continue your practice at home with the help of the supplies we love from Chapman and Bailey next door. 

YOUR BODY AS ART 

Life models are paid too of course, so please reach out to model. Please also reach out if you’d like to tick it off your bucket list as I can support and guide you with this.

Models have in my experience always been so pleasantly surprised by how empowered and relaxed they feel. They are moved when gifted beautiful portraits, too. You can try full frontal for the full experience, but models covered in fabric folds are also delightful to draw. 

All bodies and levels of experience can be painted like one of the French girls. This is a major part of why I started this series but sometimes we might only have 10 minutes at the end for you and your friend!
