Music at Nanulgarup
Description
As part of my* residency at Nanulgarup/gallop house, I will be hosting four gatherings at the house to eat and drink together, and listen to some music by outstanding local independent musicians. Each event will make use of the house's baby grand piano.
The ticket price includes drinks and ambitious home-cooked food (afternoon tea for the 3pm events, and dinner for the 6pm ones). I am very pleased to say that this edition of house concerts will be catered in collaboration with Braddy Breadcrumbs (iykyk). All meals will endeavour to cater to common dietary needs (vegan/gluten free), if you have any specific dietary needs or allergies, please contact me to let me know.
Tickets are strictly limited to 20 per event as the concert room is not very big.
Four concerts in total, see the program below.
Program
Jun 28, 3pm - residues of a dream world
Experimental compositions for quartet, present and committed, played by an unlikely assemblage of some of Boorloo's most rigorous composer-performers. The debut of this ensemble!
w/ Craig Pedersen (trumpet)
Alice Humphries (piano)
Sage Pbbbt (voice), and
Mary Rapp (double bass)
July 12, 3pm - Michael Terren
A rare chance to hear the bright and expansive mind of Michael Terren up-close on his first instrument (the piano). Possibly the first concert of this kind for Michael since the release of his important album 'It ends in a crypt', which is a set of compositions made on Ross Bolleter's ruined pianos.

July 25, 6pm - Nika Mo
Ambitious, achingly beautiful indie folk with a fiercely creative, avant-garde streak. Previously spotted mostly with a guitar, this concert is all newer material centring the piano and Nika Mo's formidable mezzo-soprano voice. Joined from song-to-song by some members of her band (but not all of them because they won't all fit in the room).
August 9, 6pm - Lia T & Stina
Something like the rainbow you get diffracting light through ambient, electro-acoustic and pop song forms. Two beloved people in the independent scene in an endearing, magical and rarely outed collaboration.

*who I am
I am a composer and saxophonist active internationally in the field of experimental music. I co-direct Tone List, an influential local platform, and co-curate the celebrated Audible Edge Festival alongside Annika Moses. I have organised hundreds of concerts (dozens of which have been house concerts). I am the current composer-in-residence at Nanulgarup/gallop house thanks to the Peggy Glanville Hicks Trust, the Fielman Foundation and the National Trust of WA.
Getting there, parking
The 24 bus stops a 3 minute walk from the house. Plan ahead, as the route is infrequent.
For drivers: if you're able to navigate stairs, the best place to park is on the Esplanade. Just past Nanulgarup/gallop house there's a small carpark on the right. Otherwise, you can park at the top of the driveway on the grass.
Folks with access needs can park in the carbay (there's room for 2 cars there).
Accessibility
The house is not built to be wheelchair accessible. It can be accessed by 3 steps at the front or by 1 short step at the back. The ground floor bathroom is reasonably spacious but may be tricky to turn a wheelchair around in. The house has two stories and no lift, but the events take place on the ground floor of the house.
Seating is a mix of chairs and cushions on the floor.
Acknowledgments
This concert takes place by the Derbarl Yerrigan on Whadjuk Noongar boodja on the site called Nanulgarup Katoomboordup. It is the Whadjuk custodians of the site who are to be credited for taking care of this place since time eternal.
With thanks to the National Trust of WA, the Peggy Glanville Hicks Trust and the Fielman Foundation for supporting my residency and enabling these concerts.
And great thanks to Lyndon Blue for the flyer!
