Music at The MiTCH feat. Sarah Belkner with Leroy Lee

Music at The MiTCH is a free entry, weekly series supported by the 24-Hour Economy and Young Henrys, and is curated by Alice Terry. Each Saturday night will feature exceptional artists from various genres The goal is to entertain and create community. We connect by hearing each other's stories, so each act booked will be performing original music.

Headlining this week is Sydney-based Singer, Instrumentalist, Songwriter, Arranger, Composer, Musical Director, and Studio Producer, Sarah Belkner

Sarah Belkner's musical journey has garnered widespread acclaim, starting with her debut solo album, BUT YOU ARE, BUT IT HAS, released in 2017. Produced by Belkner and her husband, Richard Belkner, the album was celebrated as Double J's Album of the Week. The "Cellophane" music video filmed in London by Brian Fairbarn & Karl Eccleston premiered exclusively on Rolling Stone. At the same time, her song "Susanne" left an indelible mark in a pivotal scene of the hit series Offspring.

In addition to her solo work, Sarah Belkner has established herself as a sought-after touring musician and musical director, collaborating with esteemed artists such as Missy Higgins, Neil Finn, Sarah Blasko, OLYMPIA, NGAIIRE, and Tim Minchin. Her musical direction for Tim Minchin's show "BACK" earned them the prestigious Helpmann Award for Best Contemporary Tour in 2019.

Belkner's remarkable talents extend to production as well. She produced Missy Higgins' single "Carry You," written by Tim Minchin for the acclaimed series "Upright." Furthermore, she co-wrote and produced Brendan Maclean's debut album, "And The Boyfriends" (2019), which reached #2 on the iTunes chart. She lent her production expertise to Leah Flanagan's album, "Colour By Number" (2020), which scored Double J's Album of the Week.

Enchanting songsmith and acoustic guitarist, Leroy Lee creates intimate and hypnotic lamp-lit tunes, drawing the listener into his unique world. From driving guitar riffs to intricate finger-picking melodies, Leroy is reminiscent of English folk legends like Nick Drake and Bert Jansch. His EP “Arcadia“ is an intuitive brew, weaving poetic metaphors around everyday experience, transporting us with intricate melodic textures … surprising us with his turns of phrase and sonicly rich guitar landscapes – twisting and turning, leading us on an intimate journey of surprise and intrigue.

Named Triple J’s “Unearthed” winner in 2007. Leroy has toured with Glen Hansard (The Swell Season), Missy Higgins, Lisa-Marie Presley, Lior, Folk Uke, Steve Poltz, Kaki King, Lisa Mitchell and Jeff Lang. Festival appearances include: Woodford Folk Festival, Peats Ridge, Queenscliff Music Festival and Cygnet and The National Folk Festivals.
