Music Chats: What's in an album? A conversation with Gretta Ray
Event description
MusicACT presents 'What's in an album?', speaking with nationally renowned artists about the creation of their most recent albums as part of our professional development program for 2024.
From a triple j Unearthed High win in 2016, to the Vanda and Young Global Songwriting Prize, it's hard to imagine a stronger start for one of Australia's most prolific songwriters Gretta Ray.
Gretta's 2021 debut album Begin to Look Around was nominated for both an ARIA Music Award (Breakthrough Artist) and a J Award (Australian Album of the Year). Add to that a sold-out headliner tour in 2022, an Australian arena tour supporting Gang of Youths and a viral – moment – with Gretta's poignant and entirely breathtaking cover of Billy Joel’s Vienna on TikTok (a dazzling high that has so far hit over 20 million streams, 350 million views, 35 million likes and half a million creates across socials, globally). She has been on tour with the likes of Mumford and Sons, Maisie Peters, Lianne La Havas and Dermot Kennedy, and graced festival stages from Woodford to Splendour over the years, displaying a stagecraft equal to her exquisite songwriting and musical skill.
Gretta released her sophomore album Positive Spin in 2023 to dazzling reviews and audience love. Join us for an afternoon in conversation on Sunday 28th April at Gang Gang Cafe, diving into the stories behind Positive Spin and the mastermind behind a steadily rising career that is showing no signs of slowing down.
