Music for Engagement: Supporting Routines and Regulation in the Classroom

Music can be a powerful tool for creating a positive atmosphere in the classroom and building relationships among students and staff; and you don’t need to be a trained musician to tap into the benefits of this super-accessible tool! For neurodivergent learners, music can also be a gentler way to redirect and re-connect when feeling disengaged.

In this full-day workshop, Registered Music Therapists will share neuro-affirming musical ways to support anxiety, executive functioning, emotional regulation and different sensory preferences through real-life examples.

Participants will leave with a range of simple, but effective musical tools to increase engagement and bring more fun into the school day.

In this one-day course you will:

• Learn about why music can be an effective tool and how to use it flexibly

• See examples of music strategies and how they have been applied 

• Identify opportunities for using music strategies to support students in your own classroom/cohort

• Reflect on how music may be drawn on as resource for both staff and student wellbeing

This course is designed for classroom teachers, music specialist teachers, support staff, school allied health therapists and anyone working with neurodivergent learners in groups keen to use music in their program.
