Fiona Burnett and David Jones are free spirits of the Australian music scene, joining together here for a spontaneous exploration of their instruments. Fiona’s saxophone can emulate an extraordinary variety of sounds, from the human voice to the Indian shehnai, to the shakuhachi, the oboe, or birdsong. David’s percussion brings an equal versatility to the collaboration – his is a talent which cannot be neatly pigeonholed. Sound Inspirations takes listeners on a journey through a meditational soundscape. The tracks blur the lines between composition and improvisation: David and Fiona allow sounds to blossom as the moment suggests. The result is a flowing, gentle series of works which have their own unique identity yet merge seamlessly into a complete set of beautiful music.

The cello has a long history based on deep traditions of nearly 500 years yet still remains relevant in today's rapidly evolving world. Respecting the past, Vincent Ward brings a layered and personal journey of tones and textures in response to continuous global concerns, near and abroad. Weaving darkness, light, courage and hope, exploring how the cello can still respond to the needs of our time through a lens of human emotion in music.

Fiona Burnett PhD(Melb) is a musician and improviser of remarkable skill and creative ability. As a soprano saxophonist, composer, and ensemble leader, she has been recognised internationally as a formidable musical force, thanks to her unique sound and dynamic, expressive and virtuosic improvisations. She has performed at major arts and jazz festivals around Australia.

David Jones is one of the most innovative and ‘musical’ drummers in the world. He is in demand as a virtuosic drummer and has toured and played in many high profile  musicians and bands throughout his career.  His work crosses all genres, from rock and pop through to jazz, classical, theatre, television and the ambient improvisations captured on this disc. Fiona and David have collaborated on numerous projects and recorded many releases together since 1999 including this project Sound Inspirations on ABC Atmospheres available on Apple Music. 

Vincent Ward has been challenging the norm for as long as he can remember, both musically and in life. Revealing deeper meaning behind what appears absurd, or playing Bach, Vincent is always finding ways to express his ability to connect on many levels. 
As a musician, Vincent has played cello for countless artists in Australia and overseas, as an international collaborator and session musician. He has played at music and arts festivals, concert halls and pubs bringing his unique and warm approach to every performance.
