The Musicological Society of Australia – Sydney Chapter invites students, academics, and members of the public to attend the annual Student Symposium: Emerging Directions in Musicology.

This symposium showcases outstanding research by undergraduate and postgraduate musicology students from across New South Wales. It provides an opportunity for emerging scholars to present their work in a supportive academic environment, receive constructive feedback, develop presentation skills, and connect with fellow students and researchers.

What to expect

• Student presentations exploring a wide range of musicological topics, including music theory, analysis, history, pedagogy, ethnomusicology, popular music, and scientific approaches to music.

• A keynote address by Dr David Larkin, Program Leader for Musicology and for Analytical, Historical and Cultural Studies at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, on "Building an Academic Career."

• Afternoon mentoring roundtables where students can engage directly with academics at different career stages.

• Best Paper Awards and certificates of participation.

• Plenty of opportunities to network over morning tea and a catered lunch.
