Mutual Aid & Heat Resilience Workshop
Description
How can mutual aid help build communities that are safer, cooler and more resilient to extreme heat?
Join us for a hands-on workshop exploring how we can use mutual aid, collective care and our own skills and knowledge to meet immediate needs and build stronger relationships in our communities.
We know from our work that hostile infrastructure and rising energy bills are making people sick in the heat. We also know that communities have the knowledge, creativity and collective power to come up with solutions that work for them.
Over summer, we’ll be rolling out 2-3 community-led mutual aid projects in Western Sydney. This workshop is a chance to imagine what those projects could look like and start building the structures we need to make them happen.
Together, we’ll:
Explore what mutual aid is
Look at how mutual aid has been used in disaster response and recovery
Identify what our communities need to stay safer in extreme heat
Build a structure for working together over the coming months.
Everyone is welcome, with a particular focus on Western Sydney residents. You don’t need to be an experienced community organiser, just bring your lived experience and enthusiasm for working together. Lunch will be provided!
