    Event description

The Sea Heritage Foundation is holding a Gala Fundraiser Black Tie event at the National Maritime Museum on Saturday 12th of February 2022 in the appropriately named "Lighthouse Gallery" to assist in raising funds for the restoration, maintenance and dry docking of the ship as she commences the next phase of her working life.

The MV Cape Don is owned by the Sea Heritage Foundation who operates the ship under the MV Cape Don Society, incorporating the Commonwealth Lighthouse Museum. As part of its role as a maritime museum, an exciting expansion is about to take place in providing the MV Cape Don as a training platform for Australia’s indigenous community members desiring to undertake maritime entry training courses onboard in a ship environment, breaking down the barriers restricting pathways to employment.

The ship will also be available for other maritime training, the defence force and emergency services providing access to a static training ship that can provide real-life experiences for a range of training requirements without the hazards of being underway in a protected harbor environment.  This will take the MV Cape Don from a static museum to an active education base demonstrating Australia’s maritime history while being a useful part of its future.

We hope to raise funds with the help of Government, industry, and private enterprise to assist in getting her into Garden Island naval dry dock while also developing working partnerships with industry participants.

To cater to people who would like some flexibility in how they can attend the gala the board has created two events within the program.

    1. Pre-dinner drinks 1730 - 1830

    2. Gala dinner 1830 - 1000

If you are unable to attend the dinner we would love to see you at our pre-dinner drinks function from 1730.

We thank you for your support and look forward to seeing you in February.

We are grateful to our guest speakers joining us for the evening:
