My Sunny Boy - a comedy play
Description
Experience the warmth, wit and wonderfully chaotic reality of modern motherhood in Sonny — a sharp and spirited new comedy by talented Gold Coast playwright Amy McDonald. Proudly presented as a world premiere by Spotlight Theatrical Company, this locally written production celebrates strong women, family resilience and the unpredictable journey of raising teenage sons.
Audrey Hart appeared to have the perfect life — a successful academic husband, a stylish city apartment and a baby on the way — until Ted walks out for his pregnant mistress. Determined not to be defeated, Audrey escapes to the quirky seaside town of The Cape, where life becomes a colourful mix of beach swims, belly dancing, babies and battling an activewear-clad business rival. Years later, her carefully rebuilt world is turned upside down when Ted reappears with an irresistible offer for their teenage son, George.
Filled with humour, heart and relatable family dynamics, Sunny is a feel-good theatrical experience packed with eccentric characters, clever dialogue and emotional honesty. The production shines a spotlight on local storytelling and the voices of contemporary women, making it a special celebration of Gold Coast creative talent.
Audiences can look forward to an entertaining night of laughter, connection and recognition of the fierce, funny and resilient women who hold families together — even when life does its best to unravel them.
