Event description

NADIGA GEDYURA: Walking Ingelba to Armidale

In this research project, Anaiwan researcher Gabi Briggs plans to undertake a 100 km transformative walk from Ingelbah Aboriginal Reserve to Armidale Showground, retracing the footsteps of her Anaiwan ancestors and reclaiming the deep connection to Country disrupted by colonisation.

A key intention behind this talk is to raise awareness about Briggs' planned walking route and seek assistance from local communities and landowners in facilitating access through private properties along the way. Gaining the necessary permissions and support is crucial for Briggs to complete this meaningful journey.

The research aims to uncover the stories and cultural knowledge held by Anaiwan women, supporting the revitalisation of practices suppressed by colonisation's impacts. It also explores links between violence against Indigenous women and the taking of Indigenous lands. Briggs invites participation from those interested in truth-telling, healing, and cultural revitalisation.
