Learn best practices for the safe and sustainable distribution of power for live events! This half-day workshop led by industry leader and author Richard Cadena covers how to identify and mitigate potential electrical hazards and identify suitable power sources for events. You'll learn to proactively prevent accidents like shock or fire and evaluate the sustainability of various sources of power. This workshop is a $250 value, made available for free thanks to the support of the NC Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.

Please note: we will provide coffee in the morning but this workshop does not include lunch. You are welcome to bring lunch to enjoy afterwards on the pier or beach! We have been told there will also be a few food trucks in the parking lot for Jennette's Pier.

    Electrical power distribution is crucial for the success of live events, but along with electrical power also comes certain hazards. We can make events both safer and more sustainable by understanding these potential hazards, proactively preventing accidents like shock or fire, and educating ourselves about the carbon footprint of various electrical supplies including solar, diesel generators, and utility power. Participants will receive a certificate of completion.

    Upon completion of this workshop you will be able to:

    • Identify potential electrical hazards
    • Mitigate potential electrical hazards
    • Evaluate the relative sustainability of various sources of electrical power
    • Identify suitable sources of power for event

    About the instructor

    Richard Cadena is a recognized trainer in the national Entertainment Technician Certification Program (ETCP) and an ETCP Certified Entertainment Electrician with 35 years of experience in live event production. He is the author of Electricity for Entertainment Electricians & Technicians, 3rd Edition. As a freelance lighting designer and lighting consultant he has worked on concert tours, television, theatre, motion picture productions, sporting events and more around the world.
