NAIDOC Week - Flag raising & Smoking Ceremony
Event description
Since its inception in the 1920's, NAIDOC week has sought to increase community awareness surrounding the status and treatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Please come and join us as we raise the Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander flags to commemorate NAIDOC week and acknowledge the strength and resilience of the world's longest living culture.
A Welcome to Country, Smoking Ceremony & Yidaki performance will be conducted by representatives from the Wurundjeri Woi-Wurrung.
John Wayne Parsons, a Yugerra & Ugarem Le man with ties to the Torres Strait Islands, will also be in attendance as he helps to raise his flag and share stories from his lands.
Light refreshments will be provided in Malvern Town Hall at the commencement of the ceremony.
We look forward to seeing you there!
