rest. slow down. escape into quiet music

Experience an afternoon of intimate, immersive piano music at Church St Studios with twice Aria Nominated composer Nat Bartsch and Newcastle screen composer & neoclassical pianist Mirla.

Nat Bartsch is an ARIA-nominated Melbourne pianist/composer. She creates lyrical, neo-romantic music at the intersection of several genres, and has released music for both ABC Classic and ABC Jazz. Her latest release, Hope, is a cathartic neoclassical suite that responds to the Black Summer bushfires and long Covid-19 lockdowns in Melbourne. It explores the space between hopefulness and hopelessness, with the intention to leave the listener with a feeling of optimism and catharsis. For this performance Nat will perform selections from Hope, alongside pieces from her acclaimed lullaby album Forever, and No Time At All.

Emily Mirla Harrison is an accomplished Australian pianist, screen composer and post classical recording artist performing and releasing music as Mirla.

Mirla’s spell-binding solo piano performances take the audience on an immersive journey through delicate, poignant pieces into movements which are by turns triumphant and defiant.

Acknowledged as one of Australia’s best emerging neoclassical talents, Mirla’s debut album Solitaire: The Virtue of Patience (2021) featured on ABC’s Classic Drive to popular acclaim. Based on the war diaries of her grandmother the album’s introverted laments of longing evolve into epic multi-instrumental movements – storms born of separation and captivity; the music broils and swells like those blood-stained waters of the pacific theatre of war.
