Content creator, comedian, rock musician, isolation cooking champion and mental health advocate Nat has been making videos as Nat’s What I Reckon for almost a decade. His hilarious social commentary has collected a fast-growing, dedicated audience of over 2 million along the way, and his videos have clocked up 100 million views across all platforms.
Finding entertainment everywhere from the weird to the pedestrian and with his love for taking the playful and thorough piss out of his surroundings, Nat has expounded on everything from trade shows and tattoo events to burnout festivals and exploring Area 51.
When COVID-19 crashed the party it somewhat derailed Nat’s trajectory – he was booked on a sold-out Australian tour to take his original brand of humour on the road for the first time in On Purpose, which had to be rescheduled. People panic-bought packet food and started hoarding toilet paper. The world went into lockdown. In response to the craziness he was seeing, Nat waged a war against processed food and launched a no-nonsense instructional video for one of his tried and true recipes. It struck a chord and sent views skyrocketing. This unlikely hero of lockdown got the internet cooking (and laughing) again.
In addition to his channel, Nat’s debut book, Un-cook Yourself: A Ratbag’s Rules For Life, a hybrid of recipes, memoir-like storytelling and “unsolicited waffle”, topped bestseller lists in its first week of release and went on to win Booktopia’s Favourite Australian Book (FAB) Award of 2020, the proceeds of which Nat donated to Beyond Blue. It was also nominated for Non-Fiction Book of the Year in the Australian Book Industry Awards (ABIAs). His second book Death to Jar Sauce was his first full cookbook, illustrated in comic book style, and again topped bestseller lists, took out the FAB Award for 2021 (Nat again donated the prize money and matched it from his own pocket) and was again nominated at the ABIAs.
Nat has recently collaborated with the likes of GoPro, Young Henry’s and Milkrun and featured several big names on his channel including Courtney Act, Briggs and Machine Gun Kelly. (The annual Christmas Crossover episode with Briggs has become a strong fan fave.)
Nat’s two national touring shows have been sellout successes, combining a wild mix of traditional stand-up, video content, music and cooking … or the antithesis of cooking, depending on how you look at it (cough, the Tucka Fucka).
Nat was honoured to be a guest on the first season of Courtney Act’s One Plus One, and has also made appearances on Hughsey We Have a Problem, ABC’s The Drum and Today Extra amongst others. His unique voice has seen Nat give a TED Talk™ at TEDx Sydney, and appear on popular podcasts including Osher Günsberg’s Better than Yesterday, a live incarnation of Annabelle Crabb and Leigh Sales’ Chat 10 Looks 3, Willosophy with Wil Anderson, Welcome to Hell with Meshel Laurie and Nelly Thomas, Community Noticeboard, The Andy Social Podcast and more.
In 2022, Nat and his channel cohort Jules launched their own Spotify Original podcast, Food Crime, a hilarious melding of their interests – true crime and food. Complete with games, wild stories and laughs aplenty, season one of Food Crime is available to listen for free, only on Spotify.
When Nat’s not filming, cooking or having strangers ask him how hot it is, he can often be found indulging his love of rock n roll or comedy, performing in various bands and stand-up rooms around the country.
