Description

What does it mean to live between cultures, languages, and continents?

Join Australian artist Natascha Stellmach for a conversation about her life and practice between Melbourne and Berlin, and how questions of origin, identity, and belonging have shaped her artistic work.

Born in Australia to German parents who emigrated from Germany, Stellmach grew up between two cultural worlds. This transnational experience has become a defining influence on her practice and runs throughout her projects.

In this conversation, she will share insights into her artistic journey, her experiences of living and working between Germany and Australia, and the development of her long-term project The Letting Go.

Drawing on selected works and personal stories, Stellmach reflects on themes of migration, memory, cultural identity, and the creative possibilities that emerge from living between places. Audiences will gain a unique perspective on an internationally active artist whose practice builds connections between Australia and Germany. The discussion will be followed by an opportunity for questions and audience exchange.

The event is co-presented by German Week Melbourne and is ideal for anyone interested in contemporary art, German-Australian perspectives, and questions of identity, migration, and cultural belonging.
