On the first Wednesday of May, people across Australia hold vigils and light candles to remember and honour those killed due to family and domestic violence and to stand in support of those who continue to experience family and domestic violence in our community.

We invite you to join us for a Candlelight Vigil as we honour the lives lost to family and domestic violence and express our support to the families of victims. Together, we will reflect on the impact of this crisis and reaffirm the importance of the work to be done to save lives and ensure that women and children can live free from violence and fear.

The lighting of candles symbolises remembrance, hope, and our collective commitment to end men’s violence against women and children.

Join us in our shared commitment to strive for promotion and protection of women’s and children’s rights, interests and wellbeing all year round. The Centre for Women’s Safety and Wellbeing Candlelight Vigil will be held at 6pm, Wednesday, 6 May 2026.

Electronic candles are supplied.

About the Vigil: The Candlelight Vigil takes place on National Family Violence Remembrance Day, Wednesday 6 May 2026, coinciding with Domestic Violence Prevention Month.

Please note: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander attendees are warned that the Vigil may contain images or stories of people who have passed away. It will also contain stories of domestic and family abuse, which may be distressing for some participants.
