Event description

Celebrate National Science Week with a fascinating talk by Duane Hamacher, author, Associate Professor in the School of Physics and Director of the Cultural & Indigenous Astronomy Program at the University of Melbourne. His work examines humanity's connection to the stars, with a focus on Australian Indigenous Astronomy. He appeared on TEDx, National Geographic’s The Story of God with Morgan Freeman and the film We Don't Need a Map.

Duane wrote the best-selling book The First Astronomers: How Indigenous Elders read the stars with six Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders. Copies will be available for purchase at the event, provided by local bookstore Collins Booksellers Ballarat on Lydiard.
