Event description

Join us as we read Aura Parker's beautiful children's book, Bowerbird Blues, at the same time as over 2 million others across Australia. We will be singing a few bird songs, learning about birds, visiting our very own bowerbird nest in the Pirrku Garden, and making a craft to take home. Arrive 11:15 am so that we are ready to read together across the nation at 11.30am (12:00AEST).

Or book into Toddler Tales at 10:30am and stay for National Simultaneous Storytime.

Oh, how I love the sky….

And moving through

The marvellous BLUE

Bowerbird Blues stars a beautiful bowerbird on the search for (you guessed it) BLUE!  It’s a moving story of longing and connection, that unfolds as the bowerbird’s search sends him soaring across the sea, sky and city. He swoops and snatches vibrant treasures for his collection, and soon his bower – a mix of natural and unnatural objects – attracts something greater and more fulfilling than he could ever have imagined.

National Simultaneous Storytime
(NSS) is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA). Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, family day cares, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country. Now in its 24th successful year, it is a colourful, vibrant, fun event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy.

“When we read together it helps language development, learning and literacy, all while building community. It’s also a lot of fun.”
(Trish Hepworth ALIA CEO)
