Nations vs Nonprofits: How Well-Meaning Allies Can Tell the Difference

Live Online Event

If you work in education, advocacy, or philanthropy, you have probably wondered if the organizations claiming to represent Native people are legitimate. You are not alone. Many well-meaning allies struggle to know where their support should go, and that uncertainty can lead to real harm.

Nations vs Nonprofits pulls back the curtain on one of the most misunderstood issues in allyship. You will learn how to tell the difference between real Tribal Nations and corporate nonprofits, what accountability to a community truly means, and how to avoid common mistakes that even professionals make.

Through real-world case studies and practical tools, you will:

Understand what the word “tribe” means today.
Learn how to verify legitimacy before you commit resources.
Recognize red flags that reveal fraud and impersonation.
Build confidence in how you stand with Indigenous Nations.

This presentation has been called essential training by Tribal leaders across the country for its honesty, clarity, and practicality. If your work involves partnerships, grants, education, or advocacy, this session will change how you approach Indigenous collaboration for good.

Proceeds from all registrations support the Alameda Native History Project and help reopen Indigenous Foodways through initiatives like the ACORNS! Project. By attending, you are helping to strengthen living traditions and community-led work in the Bay Area.

Seats are limited.

Join a growing network of informed allies and make sure your support uplifts sovereignty, not confusion.
