Are you keen to learn about local native plant species and how they may be able to reduce risk of bushfire at your place whilst enhancing biodiversity? Looking to protect your home and loved ones this bushfire season? 

Join us for an engaging and practical session designed to help you prepare your property and develop the appropriate plans for summer. Learn how to create a fire-wise garden using low-flammability native plants, tailored to our local environment.

Our expert presenters include:

• Vikki Hann, Regional Community Engagement Officer, CFS talking Bush Fire Ready Plans and what you can do to prepare our homes
  
• Paul and Angela, the Two BUSHIES, specialists in Native Fire-Wise Landscaping to guide you through essential tips and strategies, including how to design a garden that minimises bushfire risk. 

Whether you're a homeowner, garden enthusiast, or simply interested in fire safety, this workshop is perfect for you. The principles of fire-wise landscaping are beneficial for both rural and suburban properties, reducing the risk when properly maintained.

Following the presentations, there will be time for Q&A and some light refreshments.

It is important to understand that no plant is completely non-flammable. Species require maintenance (e.g. pruning) to ensure optimum condition. While a well planned garden is important, it is only one aspect of bushfire preparedness and should not be relied upon in isolation. 

This event is part of the Fire Wise Education Project being facilitated by the Fleurieu Environment Centre. The project is supported by the Foundation for National Parks & Wildlife and has received grant funding from the Australian Government through the Preparing Australian Communities local stream.
