Nurturing Natives: Introduction to Native Grasses with Andrew Crompton
Event description
Come and join us for a workshop with Andrew Crompton, an expert on the grasses that are indigenous to our area. We will meet at Andrews property Possum Park, just out of Mount Barker.
This workshop is aimed at people with little knowledge about native grasses – new property owners or volunteers in local bushcare groups in particular will benefit from this workshop.
The session will be divided into two parts.
Part 1 – an overview of native grasses in our area.
· What are native grasses? Why are grasses important? How do they differ to introduced species?
· How can I tell if I have them on my property? What does it mean if I do?
· How can I care for them and encourage them to spread?
Part 2 – a closer look at native grasses.
· Have a closer look at some common native grasses as well as some common introduced grasses
· Participants can bring along a sample for identification - please ensure any samples are in a zip-lock bag or similar to avoid transportation of possible weeds.
· Helpful resources - where you can go for more information if you want it. Attendees will receive a copy of the updated 'Common Native Grasses' guide to take home.
Please arrive at 9.15am for a 9.30am start. Prior to the workshop you will be emailed address details of where to go.
Morning tea will be provided.
This workshop is supported by Green Adelaide.
